Body Composition and Bone Density Scans
A Body Composition item records your body. Most are a weigh-in: a weight, and often a body fat percentage, a lean mass and a few tape measurements. Some are a scan.
Both are the same kind of item on purpose. A scan of your body is body composition, so it belongs beside the weight and the body fat you already have rather than on a page of its own.
What a scan keeps
A DEXA scan reports each region it measured, and FitnessSyncer keeps all of it: the bone mineral density for that region, both scores the machine reported, any note the report attached to that region, and the scanner it came from.
The region keeps the label the scan printed. AP Spine L1-L3 and Lumbar Spine are not the same three vertebrae, and which vertebrae were measured is part of the reading, so we do not tidy the label into something shorter.
Three regions are common enough to chart directly: the lumbar spine, the femoral neck and the total hip. Every other region the scan reported is kept and shown with them.
Where they come from
Weigh-ins arrive from your scale or whichever app records them, like any other measurement.
A scan comes in the ways described on the FitnessSyncer Notebook page. Its own text is usually enough for us to read it on our own servers, so a scan generally involves no one outside FitnessSyncer at all, and you can also type one in by hand.
Seeing them
The Body Composition report has your weight, body fat and lean mass, and underneath them your scans: one line per region across the years you have been scanned. Scans are also on your Stream, in Compare, and readable by your AI assistant.
The scores are your scanner's
A score next to a region is the one the machine reported. FitnessSyncer does not interpret it: there is no shading, no color, no band and no word of judgment next to a reading anywhere in the product. A score has a name in clinical use and putting that name here would be FitnessSyncer making a finding about you, which it does not do. These are your numbers as they were reported to you, and they are not medical advice.
Why does my scan show no weight?
Because the machine did not weigh you. A densitometry scan reports density and scores for the regions it measured, and most do not report a body weight at all. The item shows what the scan reported and leaves the rest empty rather than filling in a number nobody measured.
Does a scan go to Apple Health or Google Health Connect?
The regions and their scores stay in FitnessSyncer: those platforms have nowhere to put a per-region bone density. Where a scan does carry a reading they hold, that reading syncs as it normally would.
