Blood Panels
A Blood Panel item is one blood draw. It holds every analyte your laboratory measured that day, and next to each result it keeps the unit, the reference range and the flag your laboratory reported for it.
A panel is whatever was ordered. A lipid panel, a complete blood count, a thyroid panel and a single ferritin are all the same kind of item, and a draw that measured no cholesterol at all is still a panel.
What is kept
Everything the report says about each result: the analyte, the value, the unit, the range and the flag. A result we do not recognize is kept too, under the name your laboratory used for it, so nothing from the report is dropped. The laboratory that ran the draw is kept with it.
Where they come from
Four ways, all of them described on the FitnessSyncer Notebook page: records your health system shares with Apple Health, a file from your patient portal, a PDF we read for you when you ask us to, and typing one in yourself.
Only the PDF involves anyone outside FitnessSyncer, and it happens only for the documents you tick the box for. The Notebook page sets out exactly what is sent and what is not.
Seeing them
The Blood Panel report plots any analyte over time and puts your draws side by side, so you can see which results moved between them. Panels are also on your Stream, in Compare, and readable by your AI assistant.
The flags are your laboratory's
A flag next to a result is the one your laboratory printed. Where a result carries no range, we show no flag at all rather than deciding for ourselves whether it was normal, and most results on a typical report carry no range.
FitnessSyncer does not interpret any of it. There is no shading, no color, no band and no word of judgment next to a reading. These are your numbers as they were reported to you, and they are not medical advice.
Why are some of my results not recognized?
We match what your laboratory printed against a list of analytes that grows over time, and no list covers every name every laboratory uses. A result we cannot match is kept under the name your laboratory gave it and shown with the rest. It will not plot over time until we recognize it, because until then we cannot tell that your laboratory's name for it and another's are the same measurement.
Does a panel go to Apple Health or Google Health Connect?
No. Those platforms hold the measurements they were built for, such as a weight or a blood pressure, and have nowhere to put a ferritin. Your results stay in FitnessSyncer.
