Using FitnessSyncer with Endurain

Endurain runs on your own server, so this guide is more technical than most of our documentation. It assumes you are comfortable with Docker, a shell, and a scheduled job.

The shape of it is simple. FitnessSyncer writes your activities into a cloud folder, a scheduled job moves them onto your server, and Endurain imports them.

How do I set this up?

  1. In FitnessSyncer, add a Dropbox, OneDrive, or Google Drive destination and point it at a folder you will use only for this. Choose FIT as the file type.
  2. Make sure Endurain’s bulk import folder is visible on the host, so your scheduled job can write into it. In your compose file that means a volume covering data/activity_files.
  3. Set up rclone on the server with a remote for your cloud service, and schedule the move described below.
  4. In Endurain, open Settings, then Import, then click Import activities next to Bulk Import.

Will FitnessSyncer send the same activity again once the folder is empty?

No. FitnessSyncer records each activity it has exported by the filename it wrote, so an activity is written once even though rclone removes the file afterward. Emptying the folder does not cause it to be sent again.

Can I also use Endurain’s own Strava, Garmin, or other native integrations?

Yes, but not for the same activities as Endurain does not check for duplicates.
