  FitnessSyncer and Perplexity

Perplexity can read your health and fitness data through the FitnessSyncer MCP Server, so you can ask about your own history in plain language instead of building a report for it. Ask what your resting heart rate has done since January, whether you sleep better on the days you train, or which source stopped syncing last week, and Perplexity answers from your data rather than from generalities.

It can record an entry for you as well, so a weigh-in or a note can be dictated in the same conversation. FitnessSyncer is added as a custom connector, which is the same mechanism Perplexity uses for every other remote MCP server.

Before you start

  • A FitnessSyncer account with your sources connected. The MCP Server is included with every account, so there is nothing extra to buy; see Getting Started if you are new. A free account reaches back over less history here, exactly as it does everywhere else on the site.
  • A Perplexity account on a plan that offers custom connectors.

Step 1: Create your keys on FitnessSyncer

  1. Go to the Developer Accounts page.
  2. At the bottom of the page, select Perplexity from the list and click “Create”.
  3. Note the Client Id and Client Secret. The Client Secret is only displayed this once; if you lose it, you can regenerate it, but you will then need to enter it in Perplexity again.

Step 2: Add FitnessSyncer to Perplexity

  1. Select your name or profile in the lower-left corner of the screen.
  2. Select All settings and then Connectors.
  3. Select “+ Custom connector” in the upper right corner of the screen.
  4. Download FitnessSyncer Icon and re-upload as the icon
  5. Enter FitnessSyncer for the Name
  6. Enter https://www.fitnesssyncer.com/services/mcp for the Remote MCP server URL
  7. Expand Advanced, ensure the Authentication says OAuth, and copy-and-paste the Client ID and Client Secret that you created in Step 1.
  8. Under Transport, select Streamable HTTP. FitnessSyncer does not offer the older SSE transport, so a connector left on SSE will not be able to connect.
  9. Agree to the warning about introducing risks.
  10. Click Add.
  11. Click Connect near the FitnessSyncer icon, and approve the permissions FitnessSyncer asks for. Uncheck anything you do not want Perplexity to do; for answering questions, the read permissions are enough.

Try it

Start a new chat and paste any of these to check that everything is working:

  • List all the apps and devices FitnessSyncer is currently connected to for my account and show when they last synced.
  • How did I sleep this week compared to last week?
  • What has my resting heart rate done over the last month?
  • Give me a weekly health overview based on everything FitnessSyncer knows about me, and call out anything that looks outside my normal range.

There are many more ideas on the MCP Server page.

Perplexity explains your readings using public guidelines; this is not medical advice.

The connector was added but it never connects. What should I check?

  • Under Transport, the connector must be set to Streamable HTTP. FitnessSyncer does not offer the older SSE transport, and a connector left on SSE fails without saying why.
  • The URL must be exactly https://www.fitnesssyncer.com/services/mcp.
  • The Authentication must say OAuth, with the Client ID and Client Secret under Advanced. Perplexity may otherwise try to register itself, which FitnessSyncer does not support.

Does this cost extra?

Not from us. The FitnessSyncer MCP Server is available to any account, and a free account simply reaches back over less history, as described on the FitnessSyncer Pro page. Whether your Perplexity plan offers custom connectors is a question for Perplexity.

How do I disconnect Perplexity?

Remove the connector in Perplexity, then revoke its permissions in your profile or delete the Perplexity keys in Developer Configuration. Removing the keys stops any connection made with them, so you will need to create new keys to connect again.
