FitnessSyncer App for Android and iOS

The FitnessSyncer Apps allow you to do most of the features you can do on our mobile-friendly FitnessSyncer.com but within an App that you install on your phone. The FitnessSyncer App works similar to how it works on in the web browser. You do not need to install this application unless you need access to your Apple Health, Google Health Connect, or Samsung Health (S Health) data.
This will give you an overview of the app.
Sources and Destinations
After signing in to the FitnessSyncer App, the first tab shows your Sources and Destinations. It is called Sources, or Sync in the newest version of the app, where it also lists anything that needs reconnecting. You can choose a different screen to start on in the app’s settings.
Sources are the connections to your data to bring your health and fitness data into FitnessSyncer, and destinations are the operations you do on that data.
In this area, you can:
- add new sources and destinations
- edit sources or destinations by tapping on the items. This includes Amazon S3, DropBox, Google Drive, and OneDrive sources and destinations, including those configured for CSV, where Set up the CSV columns opens the column mapping; this option is not available for other unsupported tasks in the app.
- sync sources or destinations by swiping the item to the left and choosing sync
- delete sources or destinations by swiping the item to the left and choosing delete
While you can do most of the tasks you can do on FitnessSyncer.com, there are a few advanced tasks that you will need to do on FitnessSyncer.com. These include Historic Sync for Apple Health, Google Health Connect, and Samsung Health, and downloading a copy of a source’s data as a CSV file.
You should note that non-Pro users are limited to the number of sources and destinations tasks they have within their account, and each of these selections count towards this, except e-mail updates and PDF reports, which are free.
To receive your reports by e-mail as PDF files, add a destination and set its type to Reports by e-mail as PDF files, then choose the reports to send, such as Blood Pressure, Diabetes or Sleep, and how often. FitnessSyncer Pro users can also choose their own dashboards, send the reports to someone else, and add a message. This needs FitnessSyncer for Android 3.0.11.1 or FitnessSyncer for iOS 2.2.10.12 or later; on an earlier version, set it up on FitnessSyncer.com.
Understanding how all of the tasks fit together can be a challenge at first, so that is why we have made a quick chart for you to understand. Select the flow icon from the toolbar, and a Sankey diagram will be shown, which will show all of your configured sources flowing into the type of data they produce and then flowing into the destination tasks that consume those data types. The diagram does not consider filters at this time.
Apple Health, Google Health Connect, and Samsung Health
Apple Health, Google Health Connect, and Samsung Health (S Health) sources and destinations work a little differently than most other services on FitnessSyncer.
First, Apple Health is only available within FitnessSyncer for iOS. Google Health Connect and Samsung Health are only available within FitnessSyncer for Android.
Editing Apple Health, Google Health Connect, and Samsung Health will bring you to a global configuration where you will have a series of switches to enable or disable reading or writing of your health and fitness metrics. As you enable these, you will be prompted to grant FitnessSyncer permissions to read or write this data; you must accept all requested permissions, or the switches will turn off.
Once that the permissions are granted, you can then use the “Sync” button, which will synchronize the data with FitnessSyncer.
Future syncing does require the app and will be driven by Notifications. You can enable these in the app’s settings by turning on Auto Sync under Device Syncs. In the case of Apple Health, you must periodically tap the notification for the operation to complete as Apple Health’s security features do not allow access to Apple Health Data without the user being present.
You can also start a sync yourself without going through the app’s screens: from Shortcuts on iOS, or from your home screen, Quick Settings, and automation apps on Android.
Historic Sync
If you are a FitnessSyncer Pro user, there are certain providers to which you will now have access to import your history.
In FitnessSyncer for Android, edit the source, and for providers who have this option, tap the icon at the top.
In FitnessSyncer for iOS, edit the source, and for providers who have this option, select the “Historic Sync” from the bottom of the screen.
Once selected, you will be asked if you want to get an e-mail confirmation and what the date range you wish to use is.
This will enqueue a task, and if selected, you will be notified after it has been processing. For more information, see the Historic Sync section.
FitnessSyncer Notebook Uploads
If you have any GPX, TCX, KML, KMZ, PWX, FIT, XML, or ZIP files on your device, you can upload those directly into the FitnessSyncer Notebook in the app.
To do so, from the first tab in the app (Sources, or Sync in the newest version), tap the Upload icon. You will be asked to select the files. Once selected, we will start to upload those into FitnessSyncer Notebook where you can view them within FitnessSyncer Stream and use the data anywhere within our app.
There are two other ways to get a file in. From any app that can share a file, choose Share and pick FitnessSyncer. Or, on a tablet, drag the file straight onto that first tab. Both end up in the same place. On iOS, the Add File to Notebook action in Shortcuts does the same from a shortcut.
Watching a folder
Instead of choosing files each time, you can have the app watch a folder. Tap Upload, then Choose a Folder, and pick Upload and Keep Watching, or Watch for New Files to leave what is already there. From then on, new FIT, TCX, GPX, PWX, KMZ and KML files in that folder are uploaded to your FitnessSyncer Notebook by themselves. You can add and remove folders under Settings, Watched Folders, and removing one leaves the files it already uploaded in your Notebook.
- On Android, the folder can be on your phone, on a network share, or in another app that provides folders. FitnessSyncer checks it about once an hour when you have a connection, whenever you open the app, and when you tap Check Now.
- On iOS, the folder can be in iCloud Drive, on a server connected in the Files app, or in another app’s storage. FitnessSyncer checks it when you open the app, from time to time in the background as iOS allows, and when you tap Check Now.
On a Windows or Mac computer, FitnessSyncer Uploader watches folders the same way, and for files already in Amazon S3, Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive, Cloud Files reads them with no phone or computer involved.
We recommend leaving your phone in the foreground while these files are processing.
If you have a lot of these files or you do this regularly, we recommend that you look at FitnessSyncer Uploader or at our Cloud Drive support.
Widgets
FitnessSyncer has home screen widgets on iOS and Android for whether everything is syncing, your last seven days, your goals, your health numbers, your glucose, your latest activity and your leaderboard standing. See FitnessSyncer Widgets.
Using FitnessSyncer with Shortcuts on iOS
FitnessSyncer for iOS adds its actions to Apple’s Shortcuts app, so you can use them in your own shortcuts, in automations such as arriving home or finishing a workout, or on the Action Button. In Shortcuts, add an action and search for FitnessSyncer to see them:
- Sync Health Data sends your Apple Health data to FitnessSyncer. It opens the app to do it, because Apple Health’s security features require you to be present while its data is read.
- Sync All Sources and Sync All Destinations start a sync of every source or every destination in your account, and give back how many were started.
- Sync Source or Destination starts a sync of the one you pick from a list of your sources and destinations.
- Get Last Sync Status gives back how the most recent sync of each of your sources and destinations went.
- Get Goal Progress gives back where you stand on each of your goals.
- Get Latest Activity gives back the newest item in your FitnessSyncer Stream.
- Add File to Notebook uploads a FIT, TCX, GPX, PWX, KML, KMZ, XML, or ZIP file to your FitnessSyncer Notebook, and gives back how many items it added.
- Open Report opens FitnessSyncer on the Dashboard you pick.
- Sync Everything starts a sync of all of your sources and destinations at once, and gives back how many were started.
- Get Latest Measure gives back your most recent value for the measure you pick, such as steps, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, weight, sleep, blood glucose, blood pressure, blood oxygen, or VO2 max, as a number your shortcut can use. Weight, glucose, and distance follow your iPhone’s region for metric or US units.
Every action except Sync Health Data and Open Report runs without opening the app. What an action gives back can be used by the next action in your shortcut, for example to show a notification or to read your goal progress aloud.
When a sync action finishes, the sync has been started, not completed, because the syncing itself happens on our servers. To find out how it went, run Get Last Sync Status later, for example in an automation each morning that notifies you if last night’s sync failed.
You need to be signed in to FitnessSyncer for iOS for these actions to work. If you are not, the action asks you to open FitnessSyncer and sign in first.
Asking Siri
Some actions work with Siri without you building a shortcut first. Say:
- “Sync FitnessSyncer” or “Sync everything in FitnessSyncer” to start a sync of all of your sources and destinations.
- “What is my latest blood glucose in FitnessSyncer” or “Get my resting heart rate from FitnessSyncer” to hear your most recent value.
Use the measure’s name as Siri knows it: steps, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, body weight, body fat, hours of sleep, blood glucose, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, blood oxygen, VO2 max, distance covered, calories burned, or floors climbed. Always end with “in FitnessSyncer” or “from FitnessSyncer”; without it, Siri asks Apple Health instead.
The same actions appear when you search for FitnessSyncer in Spotlight and in the Shortcuts app’s App Shortcuts, ready to use or to add to the Action Button.
Sync from Control Center
On iOS 18 and later, you can add a FitnessSyncer Sync Now button to Control Center: open Control Center, tap the plus in the top corner, choose Add a Control, and search for FitnessSyncer. Tapping it syncs all of your sources and destinations without opening the app.
Shortcuts are available in FitnessSyncer for iOS version 2.2.9.6 and later.
Syncing from the Home Screen, Quick Settings, and Automation Apps on Android
FitnessSyncer for Android gives you three ways to start a sync without opening the app.
Home Screen Shortcuts
Touch and hold the FitnessSyncer icon to see “Sync everything” followed by your own sources and destinations, with Google Health Connect near the top. Tap one to sync it, or drag it onto your home screen to keep it a tap away. Your launcher decides how many it lists, usually four or five.
If you later delete a source or destination that you placed on your home screen, its shortcut is greyed out rather than removed, and you can remove it from your home screen as you would any other shortcut.
Quick Settings Tile
Edit your Quick Settings panel and drag the FitnessSyncer tile into it. Tapping the tile syncs all of your sources and destinations.
The message the tile shows means that the sync has started, not that it has finished; you can see how it went in the app. If you are signed out, the tile opens FitnessSyncer so that you can sign in.
Automation Apps such as Tasker
Automation apps that can send an intent to an app, such as Tasker, can start a sync on a schedule, when you arrive somewhere, or when your workout app closes. Send the action to the package com.fitnesssyncer.fitnesssyncer_for_samsung_health and the class com.fitnesssyncer.fitnesssyncer_for_samsung_health.automation.AutomationActivity, as an activity. The actions are:
com.fitnesssyncer.action.SYNC_ALLsyncs all of your sources and destinationscom.fitnesssyncer.action.SYNC_ALL_SOURCESsyncs all of your sourcescom.fitnesssyncer.action.SYNC_ALL_DESTINATIONSsyncs all of your destinationscom.fitnesssyncer.action.SYNC_GOOGLE_HEALTHsyncs Google Health Connectcom.fitnesssyncer.action.SYNC_SAMSUNG_HEALTHsyncs Samsung Healthcom.fitnesssyncer.action.GET_LAST_SYNC_STATUSchecks how the most recent syncs went
Apps that can read an activity’s result receive outcome and count. The outcome is QUEUED when a sync has been started, or NOT_SIGNED_IN, NOTHING_TO_DO, ALREADY_IN_PROGRESS, SUCCEEDED, or FAILED. For GET_LAST_SYNC_STATUS, count is how many of your sources and destinations failed their most recent sync.
Getting your goal progress or your latest activity is not available on Android. Any app on your phone can send these actions, so they never give back your data.
To open a Dashboard from an automation, have it open that Dashboard’s link from FitnessSyncer.com, and FitnessSyncer for Android opens it. To add a file to your Notebook, share it to FitnessSyncer, as described in FitnessSyncer Notebook Uploads.
These are available in FitnessSyncer for Android version 3.0.10.4 and later.
FitnessSyncer Dashboard
The FitnessSyncer App also includes a Dashboard, which will show you the default dashboard with all of your data. The Dashboard’s data is based on your sources and the selected Options. The available options are similar to those available on our website.
If you are a FitnessSyncer Pro user and wish to have a custom dashboard for your mobile experience, you can edit the Dashboard from your browser on FitnessSyncer.com, and you can select it in the Options. By default, we will show you the dashboard saved as Mobile Dashboard.
In addition, there is a bunch of Dashboards you can load such as the Your Best, Leaderboards, and more. To do so, simply open the report from the Options menu.
FitnessSyncer Stream
The FitnessSyncer App also includes a Stream, which shows you a list of all of your recent health and fitness information. You can filter this information by tapping the Filter icon on the page.
From the FitnessSyncer Stream, you can get more information on any item by tapping it. The information displayed here depends on the item and includes the summary, map, splits, charts, and other information.
From an item, you can also tap the Compare icon to put it side by side with your other items of the same kind, such as two runs, two nights of sleep, two ECG recordings. Pick the items to compare it against, and FitnessSyncer Compare is drawn for you; for sleep, the alignment selector at the top decides how the nights are lined up against each other.
Settings and Your Account
Most of the Profile settings are available to be changed on your phone. In the newest version of the app, tap the account button at the top right of any tab to open your account, which holds your settings, your subscription, help, and Sign Out. In earlier versions they are under the Settings tab.
These screens keep what you change as you leave them, so there is no Save button to press: go back, or pick another setting, and your change is on its way. The source, destination, goal, and power zone editors still have a Save, because those can be rejected and we would rather ask than lose what you typed.
You can also configure properties specific for Apple Health and Samsung Health, such as whether Standard Synchronization is enabled, which will automatically regularly synchronize your Apple Health, Google Health Connect, and Samsung Health items, and whether the Standard Synchronization is only available over Wi-Fi.
Using FitnessSyncer on a Tablet
On an iPad or an Android tablet, the app’s settings and the Dashboard’s Options open as a list down the side with the screen you picked beside it. Choosing another row replaces the pane rather than the whole screen, so the list stays where it is. Narrow the window and it goes back to one screen at a time, exactly as a phone does.
You can open FitnessSyncer in two windows side by side. Each keeps its own report, dates, and filters, so changing the report in one leaves the other alone.
With a keyboard attached, Command-S on iPad or Ctrl-S on Android saves an editor and Command-W or Ctrl-W closes it. On iPad, the menu bar also carries your tabs and the tools from the first tab.
Forms are held to a comfortable width and centered rather than stretched across the whole screen. Your Dashboard, charts, and lists still use the full width.
FitnessSyncer Pro Subscriptions
You can also purchase your FitnessSyncer Pro subscription within the app.
To do so, open the app’s settings (the account button at the top right in the newest version, or the Settings tab in earlier ones) and select FitnessSyncer Pro to get more information about FitnessSyncer Pro and subscribe.
For FitnessSyncer for iOS, you can change or cancel your subscription by going to the Settings on your phone. For more information, see Apple’s support site.
For FitnessSyncer for Android, you can change your subscription by going to the My Apps section of the Google Play Store.
Logging Out
You can sign out of the application with Sign Out at the bottom of the app’s settings (the account button at the top right in the newest version, or the Settings tab in earlier ones), or you can remove the permissions granted to the application under the Permissions tab on your account.
On Android, signing out also removes your sources and destinations from the FitnessSyncer icon’s touch and hold menu, and any you placed on your home screen stop working until you sign back in.
I am unable to authenticate a service I added. How can I work around this?
The easiest way to work around this is by adding the service on our website at FitnessSyncer.com if you encounter any issues, but please let us know!
Having Issues?
If you have any issues with the FitnessSyncer App, please make sure that you are using the latest version of FitnessSyncer and any app being used, such as Samsung Health.
Should you have any feedback or issues regarding the app, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Why are my Notifications Not Working?
In the FitnessSyncer app’s settings, either go to Device Syncs or to Apple Health and ensure that Standard Synchronization is enabled. You may wish to disable this, leave the screen so it is saved, and then turn it back on if it was already enabled.
Then, under your phone’s Setting App, go to Notifications and ensure that FitnessSyncer notifications are enabled.
To test your notifications, you can go to FitnessSyncer.com under your account, and tap Sync for a source or destination that uses Apple Health, Google Health Connect, or Samsung Health.
If notifications reach one of your devices but not another, reinstall FitnessSyncer on the device that did not receive it and sign in again.
If you are on Android and have issues with the syncing, please review your battery settings as this can interfere.
Should that not resolve the issue, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Can I use FitnessSyncer on more than one phone or tablet?
Yes as long as it is the same account. You can sign in on as many devices as you like, such as an iPhone and an iPad, and each one is notified separately. They all read and write the same FitnessSyncer account, so a sync started on any of them updates everything.
Signing out of one device or turning its notifications off, affects only that device.
I am receiving errors on my Samsung Phone when the device is off.
Samsung Galaxy phones optimize battery usage and turn off applications that run in the background. This can be an issue for applications like ours, which work in the background to synchronize while you are away. Fortunately, you can disable this by:
- Go into the Android’s Settings
- Select Device Maintenance
- Select Battery
- Select Battery Usage
- Select Optimize Battery Usage
- Select All Apps
- Select FitnessSyncer
- Ensure that Battery Optimization is not enabled.
